Cleaning window shutters - a how-to guide

Actually cleaning window shutters can be a very laborious task depending on what your shutters are made out of. If you have normal wooden shutters which have been either painted or stained to a decent finish then you can simply smooth over them with a cloth or give them a polish.

A duster will get rid of lighter debris but if you have stronger stains then it's just as easy to get a damp cloth and together with some detergent, scrub the stains away that way. This won't harm your shutters in anyway so don't be afraid of giving them a good scrub!

Some types of shutters may need harsher cleaning with, for example, a pressure washer. There are some companies that will do this type of thing for you.

The main benefits of cleaning window shutters are the following :-

  • Keeps everything in proper working order - no need to worry about anything going wrong as long as they are kept spick and span
  • Prevents corrosion - pretty self-explanatory
  • Will extend the lifespan of the shuter - obviously if they are kept in tip top condition then you can look forward to a long shelf life for your shutters
  • The last point is that keeping them clean will provide you with something that is priceless. Peace of mind. If your shutters are kept clean and in fully working order then you have no need to worry should a storm strike!

If you're looking for the most user friendly type of shutters then ignore vinyl and wood shutters and go with Polywood shutters - these are much easier to take care of and when it comes to cleaning window shutters, they are your best bet by far.
